Evolution makes nature the ultimate architect
|
|
Charles Darwin has shown us how nature keeps developing more efficient and economic building methods through the continuous process of evolution. Think of the versatility of the human skeleton which is flexible enough to give us freedom of movement and at the same time sturdy enough to protect our vital organs. Or take a look at the finely tuned temperature control system of the termite mound which never lets the internal temperature fluctuate more than 3 degrees despite the extreme heat outside during the day and the cold at night. ORGA architect strives to translate these fine examples of structural design from the natural world into our present-day architecture.
Just as the shape of a natural organism is determined by its function the shape and structure of an architectural design should be determined by the functional requirements of its users. This includes their health and wellbeing which are both influenced by the environment in which they live and work. The use of natural, sustainable and healthy materials is therefore a logical consequence. |
In this modern world people and nature still exist in close proximity to each other and in our architectural designs we strive to sustain and even strengthen this connection. Natural surroundings and a green living environment have a great positive influence on our wellbeing. Therefore we try to integrate aspects of the natural life in our buildings when possible. For example through the use of green roofs , a responsible level of vegetation and the placement of nesting possibilities for birds, insects and bats.
It is our conviction that architecture inspired by nature can result in an optimal use of the available space and produce some very interesting shapes and structures at the same time. These elements, combined with the use of natural and sustainable materials, make any time spent in one of our buildings a pleasant and healthy experience.
