Ecological Transformation

Ecologizing a residence in Vreeland

The clients wanted a number of ecological and more sustainable adjustments to this traditionally designed residence at De Vecht in Vreeland. After a consult on sustainability the clients were convinced of the need for and benefits of ecological building and they asked ORGA architect to draft the request for a building permit and manage the building process. As the results of limiting regulations it was not possible to make any adjustments to the exterior.

However, there were still a number of ecological measures that could be taken:

  • Thicker isolation, an increase of Rc-values from 3,5 to 6
  • A layer of shells in the crawl space
  • 20% debri granulates in the concrete
  • A wooden skeletal structure instead of a sandstone structure
  • More acces to daylight (solartubes)
  • HR++ glass
  • Directed natural ventilation
  • Floor heating through a Low Temperature Heating System
  • Solar collectors
  • Solar deflectors on the south side
  • Solarheating or heat pump
  • EPDM instead of zinc
  • Isolation of the pipe network

Keep track of the building process on the clients weblog:http://vechtoever13.web-log.nl/
