036 Reduzum
Visual Quality Assessment

The town of Reduzum in Friesland is planning to build a new combined residential and commercial district. ORGA architect has been asked to provide a consult and examine the consequences of such a district for the visual quality of the landscape and to provide the local government with a Visual Quality Assessment.

The starting point is the conservation and possible enhancement of the typical Frisian landscape. The idea is to let the new area integrate in the traditional landscape by including architectural designs that look like typical Frisian farmhouses. This way, the partially commercial district gives the appearance of a small rural village from a distance. Using traditional materials like wood and bricks will ad to this traditional outlook.

024 Cut Out
Polder dwelling in Almere

To make sure that the natural surroundings of the polder are affected as little as possible by construction, the dwelling is literally cut out of the landscape. To create the impression that it forms a structural part of those surroundings the fields merge seamlessly into the roof of the building. The structure itself is made up out of six pealed trunks that bear one larger trunk which functions as a central pivot for the beams that form the roof. The result is a cozy and small budget home, build out of natural materials which is one with the surrounding nature.

A monument for the victims of the fireworks disaster in Enschede 13 may 2000

The monument consists of 23 individual flowforms, inspired by the number of people who died in the disaster. The flowforms are connected by the infinite movement of rhythmically pulsating water. The pulsating water flows onto the square which is surrounded by more than 75 Cherry Blossom trees. These trees flourish beautifully for a week around the time of the memorial day and will cover the park completely in pink.
The memorial park symbolizes the transience of existence through the temporary blossoming of the Cherry Blossom trees as well as the infinite circle of life through the continuously pulsating water of the flowforms.
